The Naruto OL mobile game is a China exclusive that has been around for a long time. It’s one of those games that goes under the radar until a flashy event puts it in the crosshairs of the global otaku community.
Events in online games from notorious anime franchises are commonplace, so they shouldn’t attract much attention from everyone except the players (events always bring good rewards). But this was a special case, as the theme of the event turned the most charismatic kunoichi of the Hidden Leaf Village into idols.
The event, titled Shinobi Sisters, features Sakura, Ino, Hinata and Ten-Ten dressed in colorful outfits alluding to current J-pop and K-pop stars. The cinematic that opens the game is fantastic, as it is a music video in which the four ninjas dance to a catchy song. The short combines digitally animated scenes with others done in a traditional way showing the girls showing off their secret ninja moves.
