The publicists of the new Resident Evil (with the title Village) showed off by revealing the promotion they planned to use to make the game known. It is a show with puppets, in the gothic and dark style of the franchise. The show’s protagonists and hosts are some of the main villains, led by Lady Alcina Dimitrescu herself.
She is accompanied by Donna Beneviento, Salvatore Moreau and Karl Heisenberg, all of them bosses that the main character, Ethan Winters, must face to achieve her goal. Nonetheless, in this show, the villains look adorable in their puppet forms, as they gleefully sing about their villa, and how cozy it is.
Despite the childish aspect of this promotion, as the episodes unfold we discover the dark elements of the Resident Evil franchise. Villains wander from one side of the stage to the other, building deadly machines and brandishing terrifying weapons like chainsaws, all in stark contrast to the show’s childlike atmosphere.
A very common joke that the characters bring up in each episode is related to the drop in the ‘fear’ level of the game. This was caused by claims by various players about the previous title, which they found to be very scary for their mental well-being. So, to encourage new players to try Resident Evil Village, the villainous gang sings the song “The village is not scary” throughout the four chapters of the show.
