In January of last year it was reported that Netflix would have started production of a series based on the famous Resident Evil video game franchise. The few disclosure details indicated that the project was run by Constantin Film AG, the same company that produced the live-action films starring actress Milla Jovovich. The series will have an original story, similar to the movies, with allusive references to elements of video games.
The project seemed to have fallen into oblivion, with the occasional leak about the plot of the series that was not taken very seriously. This changed at the end of the month of August of this year, when Netflix made production of the Resident Evil series official and published a photo showing the pilot episode script with a brief review of what that we will see.

“When the Wesker sisters move to New Racoon City, they will discover secrets that could spell the end of everything. Resident Evil, a new live-action series based on Capcom’s legendary survival horror franchise is coming to Netflix soon.”
With this announcement the rumors about the existence of a second Racoon City and the existence of the daughters of Albert Wesker, one of the most important villains, were confirmed in the franchise. This last detail also confirms that the series is detached from the history of video games like the movies, by introducing original characters similar to Alice (in Resident Evil 6 it is revealed that Albert Wesker has a son named Jake).
The first season will consist of eight one-hour episodes and the plot will be divided into two timelines: In the first we will see Jade and Billie Wesker, fourteen years, moving to the mysterious New Racoon City, where they will begin to suspect that their father has nefarious secrets that could destroy the world. The second timeline, It will happen 16 years later, when much of the world’s population has been wiped out by the T-Virus and Jade (thirty years old) wanders alone in this new apocalyptic world while she is haunted by her family past.
Andrew Dabb, executive producer of the last seasons of Supernatural, has been chosen to be in charge of this new series. Dabb is a self-confessed Resident Evil fan and has stated that he is very excited to introduce fans of the franchise to this new story, which he claims promises to be nostalgic, gory and crazily new. The first two episodes will be directed by Bronwen Hughes, who worked in the same role for the series The Walking Dead and Better Call Saul. Meanwhile no there is news about the cast or the premiere date of the series.
