2021 is the year in which Peru will have a strong presence in the video game market. Although previously many of the various national projects failed to attract much attention from the media or international developers, this time it will be different with two new proposals. And one of them bears the stamp of Nintendo itself.
The first project comes from the national developer Dream Potion Games, and inspired by the well-known video game youtuber Pepe el Mago. The game, whose title is Wizard, is a 2D platform adventure starring a sorcerer who must fight his way through hordes of enemies, using his powerful magic to achieve it. It already has a demo available on Steam.
The second project is from another national studio, Leap Game Studios. His proposal, called Tunche, is also a 2D beat’em up style game, set in the Amazon. You can choose between five characters (special appearance of Hat Kid, protagonist of A Hat in Time), each with their own style of play and special techniques. Its premiere is scheduled for March 2021, and will be released for PC and Nintendo Switch. Tunche started out as a Kickstarter initiative, and it surprised everyone when it appeared at Nintendo’s Indie World 2020 event. Tuncha has made a great impression in various media outlets dedicated to video games, and is considered one of the most anticipated titles for fans of independent games.
These two titles carry with them the promise of a bright future for national video game productions. We hope they will be successful and spur other national initiatives.
