The game Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is one of the most acclaimed Japanese RPGs of recent years. Developed by the Level-5 studio in conjunction with production company Studio Ghibli, its plot, gameplay, characters, and artistic concept wowed gamers and critics alike. But the most surprising thing is that the developers were inspired by the ancient Peruvian culture to elaborate the game world.
One of the locations that the player can discover as he progresses through the game is the city called Lost (no jokes, that’s the name). On the back of a dragon it is easy to locate it, but when you approach one you will notice the amazing resemblance to Machu Picchu that this location has. Upon entering it, the impressive decoration is a mixture of Aztec and Inca motifs (the latter predominating.
Apart from that, the NPCs that live there dress very similarly to those who live in Cusco and in the vicinity of Aguas Calientes. Not to mention the presence of animals inspired by llamas and alpacas. Unfortunately, this city does not have a soundtrack, as it is more of an ‘eastern egg’ than an important phase of the game.
The following reference is also another location in the game. It is about the continent of the magicians, called Nazcaa. Yes, the name says it all. It is a place inspired by the Nazca desert plain, which is only accessible from the air and after meeting certain necessary requirements.
To land in this place using your dragon, you must do it using as a platform an area marked with a figure in high relief. This is another reference to Nazca and its already famous Lines.
As we can see, Peru is always present in the minds of video game developers. With new titles about to be released, it is certain that we will see our country being represented as part of the artistic concept of various games.
