The Left 4 Dead video game series broke the rules in the gamer community, becoming the favorite of many for its simplicity and excellent re-playability. The premise revolved around Around four survivors in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. These characters aim to reach the shelters while facing various hordes of infected, using a combination of firearms and melee weapons (such as katanas, barbed wire bats), while staying alive using medkits. Teamwork is vital to winning, as the infected vary in skills, intelligence and size.
The franchise is made up of two main titles: Left 4 Dead, launched in November 2008 and developed by a studio called Turtle Rock, which was bought by Valve (responsible for Half Life), who continued and completed the final game. Then there’s Left 4 Dead 2, which went on sale in November of the following year amidst controversy sparked by the rapid release of a sequel to the first game. Regardless, Valve managed to calm fans down, ensuring that both titles would receive additional content including a campaign that would have the protagonists of the two games crossing paths while escaping from the horde of infected.
Both games received updates until the end of 2012, apart from a special appearance by the four protagonists of Left 4 Dead 2 in Mercenaries mode: No Mercy for the PC version of Resident Evil 6. But since then there have been no more announcements about future additional content (coming from Valve or the game community itself) no mention of a sequel. However, after almost 8 years of silence, the community has received a hopeful surprise.
This week, on the Left 4 Dead website blog, the following message appeared: “It has been many years since the infection started. The radio is dead, there is no signs of life, nothing but slight hopes … CEDA will not save us. But don’t give up! Brave souls continue to fight against all odds, and soon we will we will benefit from their resistance. " The message continues: “The Last Stand” is an update for Left 4 Dead 2, created by the community for the community. Soon there will be more details. The release closes with a trailer for fans to take a look at what’s to come.
The name of the update is a direct reference to a level that took place in a lighthouse, only available in the first game. At the moment, it is not officially known if This is a single-level expansion or the possibility of a whole new campaign. Some fans theorize that the story is focused on one setting fatalistic in which the survivors go astray and end up in a place where no one is going to rescue them, just as it happened in the level of the game where the name of the game of this new update comes from.
