According to Yahoo! Japan, the company’s profits fell quite a bit in recent years, while development costs only grew. Just a year ago, they were $ 3.7 million in debt. While his first three titles (Superstar Saga, Partners in Time, and Bowser’s Inside Story) were quite successful, these numbers didn’t last. While sales for Dream Team (its first 3DS game) were positive, Paper Jam struggled further.
In an attempt to revive the company, they resorted to remaking their most popular games. However, the Superstar Saga remake was released in 2017 and the Bowser ‘s Inside Story remake was released in 2018. Both games were released on the Nintendo 3DS, when the Switch was already available. This made it much more difficult for the press and the public to pay attention to them.
