The great soundtrack of the movie “Your name” (君 の 名 は。) is composed entirely by the band “Radwimps”. and it shows a lot the versatility of the members due to the variety of styles that this album has. The song “Council of war” is composed by the vocalist / rhythmic guitar Yojiro Noda (野 田 洋 次郎), a theme that accompanies the moment in which they design the master plan for the key event of the film.
This work is initially Drums and Piano and then as the work develops, enter guitar jams. Creates an atmosphere tense by harmony but determined by the rhythm of the notes. The first section is basically two chords:
G # 7sus4 - Aadd9
This uncertainty of not being able to fully define the tonality produces a certain tension, to this is added a third chord that could close the harmonic circle
G # 7sus4 - Aadd9 | D |
And in a way we could say that the key is D, leaving the G # 7sus4 as an approximation a chord, moreover, being this the first chord it continues to produce a lot of tension (it even makes the D feel like a strange chord) the last section creates a rest in both parts the sequence goes like this:
C # m - Bsus | D | Bm - Esus | E | x2 E | A - F # m7 (b5) | Bm - Esus | E |
Clearly with this progression the key of E major is defined and one could guess that the beginning was also it, only that they did not make any cadence to define the key. A great job for a great movie.
