Youjo Senki (幼女 戦 記) is an anime that introduces us to Tanya Degurechaff, a little girl who is an Officer (later turned Major) of the Magic Air Force of the Imperial Army, but who is actually an atheist Japanese executive who has been reincarnated in a magical alternate world in a time similar to the First World War. The main theme of the anime called “Youjo young girl’s war: The saga of Tanya the Evil” (composed by Shûji Katayama) tries to convey the warlike atmosphere where the plot takes place, and in turn print all the cruel, amoral personality , sadistic of Tanya. Let’s see the elements that this great musical work presents:
This work is in the key of G minor, and begins melodically with a descending chromatic phrase from G to D:
G - F # - F - E - Eb - D
This structure could be harmonized using chords of the minor key of G, however to print emotional instability, it is decided to use chords outside of it, but maintaining a descending chromatic pattern every 2 chords:
Gm - F # m - Bbm - Am - Eb - D
The first section uses the 3/4 as the measure indicator, with a rhythmic motif of 4 bars (12 beats), all supported by a pedal note in G (this is when the low note of the harmony is always the same note). This option is very effective when you want to have a lot of freedom in the upper part of the harmony and not lose the tonal objective.

The second section is characterized by a melodic motif that begins with a chromatic descending border depending on the chord in turn (this is G - F # - G, when using the Gm chord, and D - C # - D, for when using the chord of D:
| Gm | % | % | % | D | % | % | % |
| Gm | % | % | % | D | Eb | F F / G F / A |
The third section has 2 very interesting elements, the first is the modulation to the key of Bbm, which is very well designed, since the last measure of the previous section is designed to resolve Bb major, but the work surprises by using the same root of the resolution chord but different quality, and then return to the initial key. The second is the change of time signature to 4/4 but with change of melodic phrases every 3 bars (keeping the phrasing every 12 beats, but with metric accents in different places).

Finally the work returns to the structure of the first session, thus achieving a forceful impact on the listener. It is worth mentioning that this work is heard during many of the aerial battle scenes, also in the speech at the end of the first season.
