The new Star wars series, The Mandalorian brings us a fresh story about a bounty hunter who in one of his missions crosses destinations with our favorite Jedi Yoda (Practice your duty) when he was a baby, He catches a lot all the environment and the main theme is still a great work by Ludwig Göransson.
To begin with, using drums to generate a tribal base gives it an atmosphere that brings us closer to the ancestral and mystical of the series.
The melody is loaded with the emotional weight that the character carries, and this is achieved with the key of C minor (incidentally, the Cm is the most dramatic key there is), however the melodic motif has 2 moments, a first part using Galopas rhythmically, which gives us a feeling of altruism and then ends in the second part that reflects the burden of everything lived.
It is very important to connect with everything that the composer narrates in order to make effective decisions in the arrangement. Hence, I reinforced the first part of the motif with octaves, and the second half I sought more melodic fluidity and played it without reinforcement.
In fact, the moment that I loved the most about this work is the rhythmic and harmonic break at the end of the phrase:
In Rhythm, it breaks the binary division (halves or quarters of time) by a ternary (Trecillos or thirds of the time). In Harmony it uses the V major (from the Harmonic minor scale of C, it is a harmonic break because before this arrangement the work only used the harmony that comes from the Ancient Minor scale of C), and to emphasize this arrangement melodically It ends with the note “B” (false tonal sensitive that comes from the Harmonic minor scale).
Quite apart, it is worth highlighting the good work during the episodes by outlining the reason at times, the series is very good lmL
