The Mandalorian Ashoka Tano Disney Plus Star Wars Musical analysis

The Mandalorian - Ahsoka Tano

The Mandalorian

Chapter 13 of the great Disney plus series “The Mandalorian” entitled “The Jedi”, appears to the pleasure of all Star Wars fans “Ahsoka Tano”, whose story is told in during the animated series “Star Wars: The clone wars ”(as a Jedi Padawan apprentice to Anakin skywalker) and“ Star Wars: Rebels ”.

During the end of the chapter, Ludwig Göransson, in charge of composing the soundtrack of each chapter, gives us a variant of the work “Ahsoka Tano Theme” (composed by Kevin Kiner), in order to represent the events of that scene. which I will go on to explain in 3 stages.

Ahsoka

The first moment is a conversation between “Mando” and “Ahsoka” regarding the future of the child. This first section is quite free in execution since there is only the original melody of the work and then little by little it begins to sketch the harmony but this time it executes the first 4 bars of the original melody and then concludes in another way:

| N.C. | % | % | % | Gm | Eb / G | Fsus2 | Fsus4 - F |

| Gm | Eb | Gm | Bb | Gm | Eb | F | Fsus4 |

The melody used is the same for the following sections, 4 measures of the original and 4 measures added, and it is in this area where an interval is incorporated that has the same feeling at the 7th measure of the theme of “The Force” (from John Williams), for the contact that the child has impregnated in Ahsoka.

And it is precisely at the moment of the farewell of the 2 characters, that more rubbed string textures are incorporated (violin, viola, cello) thus giving emotionality to the scene. And in order not to get monotonous, he re-harmonizes the melody as follows:

| Gm | F / A | Eb / Bb | D / F # | Gm | Eb | F | % |

Finally the first 4 bars of the melody are made, but this time a tribal percussion is added, defining a 3/4 measure, which gives it an air of inner joy (which is reflected in Ashoka), and of a possible “ new Hope”:

| Gm | % | Eb | % | Gm | % | Bb | D7 / F # | Gm |
