Near the end of episode 3 of “The god of High school” they face Jin Mo-Ri and Judge Q, with the aim of giving Jin a chance to continue in the tournament. During this battle a musical theme (composed by Arisa Okehazama) is heard in the background, which follows the development of the fight very well, creating at the same time a dark and imposing atmosphere.
The work is in Phrygian mode of G (G - AB - Bb - C - D - Eb - F - G), which is quite a shady mode, however when combined with a moderate speed (98 BPMs approximately), it is created a vigorous, firm atmosphere, but with a dark undertone (“Take off your glasses”).
And when Judge Q reveals all the power that he has, the music really explodes rhythmically, the work becomes epic, great. The electronic textures they use help a lot, it really ties in very well to what you see. It is very interesting to continue feeling the Phrygian mode in this passage, considering that they do not play the note that characterizes it (the 2nd minor, in this case the note Ab). Although later on they include the initial Phrygian riff to certify the mode and continuity of the work.
To end the soundtrack there is a sudden silence, which coincides with the culmination of the battle, and a phrasing on a pentatonic scale of G is executed that fits well with Jin’s reaction to everything that happened.
It should be noted that the work is heard for the first time when Park Mu Jin enters the tournament, plus only the first part and that introduction reflects a lot the concept of the anime produced by Crunchyroll.
