Record of Ragnarok - Battlefield Massacre in Sol

Record of Ragnarok

Zeus’ epic entry into the battlefield in “Record of Ragnarok (Shuumatsu no Valkyrie), is accompanied by a unique version of the second movement of the“ Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D major, BWV 1068 by Johann Sebastian Bach ”as well. known as “Aria for G string” due to the arrangement made by the violinist August Wilhelmj.

The arrangement is called “Massacre on the battlefield in G” (G 戦 場 の 大 殺戮) and begins with an organ ostinato with drum histories and bass in the key of Dm, and then begins with the melody of the Bach theme. changing the key directly to D major, being played by Hermes’ violin:

| D - D / C # | Bm - Bm / A | G - G # ° | A - A / G # |

| F - F / E | B / D # - B | Em - Em / D | A / C # - A |

| D - D / C # | Bm - E / G # | A D E - | A |

Note the movement of the bass, creating bridges between chord and chord, properly following the rules of counterpoint of the second kind. The work goes on to a next section but to give it an increase in intensity, the drums accompany it as if it were doubling the speed (Double time feel):

| A - A / G # | F # ° - F # ° / E | B / D # - B / F # | Em - Em / D |

| F # / C # - F # / B | F # / A # | Bm C # ° - F # 7 | Bm |

At the moment when Zeus and Hermes connect with such a work, an improvisation section comes in the key of C # m, through direct modulation. this moment is the climax of the scene:

| C # m | % | % | % | x3

To finally resume the beginning with the organ ostinato in the key of Dm, while the violin improvises on this section that leads to the final part of the work with Zeus transforming into his battle form. Great arrangement for one of the most spectacular moments of the series musically speaking
