Kingdom hearts is a great RPG game developed by Square Enix and Disney interactive Studios, where our main character “Sora” travels through various worlds in the Disney and Final Fantasy universe. The soundtrack is composed by Yōko Shimomura who had the great job of arranging representative works of both franchises for the game and creating works for certain situations.
Among these is “Dearly Beloved” which is one of the most representative works of the game and is heard in the start menu.
What stands out most about this work is the use of “add9” chords which produce a very pleasant sensation to the listener, these are formed by adding tension 9 directly to the triad. So if we have the chord of C (C - E - G) and we increase it by the 9th major of C (D) we would get C (add9) (C - E - G - D). Similarly, if we had a minor chord such as Cm (C - Eb - G) and we increased the major 9 to it, we would get Cm (add9) (C - Eb - G - D).
