A few days ago the trailer for the movie “Joker” was released, played by the tremendous actor Joaquin Phoenix. In this preview, the song “Smile” is taken as the soundtrack and it is arranged in such a way that it impresses a lot on the viewer.
This beautiful melody is heard for the first time (more instrumentally) in the Legendary Charles Chaplin’s Film “Modern Times” and was composed by Charles and John Turner himself in 1936 (in the film it appears as “love theme”).
This melody was the basis for creating the song “Smile” originally interpreted by Nat King Cole in 1954, and it could not be called otherwise since the gesture of Charlot at the end of the film inviting the girl to Smile after having said " We’ll get by, “is very much impressed on anyone who sees.
And in that context we hear the version made for the trailer of “Joker”, saying to you “Smile even if your heart hurts, smile even if you are breaking …” but I want to emphasize the execution of the work for the trailer, I know feel the contained rage, the impotence of seeing all the chaos around you and not being able to do anything, while little by little I am falling into dementia … and when there are no words to say … we hear the orchestra shake the reason and defying everything, we see the iconic character of the DC universe born
The following arrangement is based on the instrumental section that is heard to masterfully conclude the trailer. An execution that is very different (due to the focus given in the film) to other versions made by Michael Jackson, Eric Clapton, Luis Miguel, Steve Wonder, Djvan and so many great artists. It is definitely a movie not to be missed.
