The worst anime of 2020

This list includes titles that many fans consider the biggest disappointments in anime this year. Whether it’s because they turned out to have a hollow plot, bad animation, or boring as hell, the general consensus is that they are mediocre at best. And in the worst case scenario, no one will blame you for never seeing them.

1. Gibiate

vaccine

The consensus on this title is unanimous. Gibiate is the worst anime of the year 2020. And a strong candidate for the top ten worst anime of the decade. The animation is erratic, the CGI used on the monsters is the worst, and the story is irretrievably derailed. A lot of otakus didn’t make it past the first episode, which says a lot about how lousy it is. For those who had the aplomb to finish it, they could only accept that they had wasted their time. The best thing to do is pretend that Gibiate (as an anime) never existed.

2. Kyochuu Retto the movie

insects

Based on a manga, this story promised action, horror, and gore. A group of survivors are stranded on an island inhabited by giant insects. But the CGI of the insects is so bad it is laughable, the characters become unbearable as the plot progresses, and the horror is non-existent. Only for those who enjoy watching really bad movies (and anime).

3. Ninja Collection

ninja

It is incomprehensible that something like this has received the go-ahead to be broadcast. Ninja Collection is the epitome of carelessness in animation and history. The premise of four ninjas who must fight supernatural forces has appeal, but the format of the episodes combined with an animation and rhythm that hurts the eyes and spirits of those who see it end up burying this abomination completely.

4. Risunazu

listen

The worst thing about this anime is that it disappoints enormously despite having a very interesting premise. The setting is a world without music, in which two boys come together to change it by fighting aboard a robot. Sounds familiar? In a way, it’s reminiscent of Zoids, but with a heavy emphasis on the songs on its soundtrack. The downside is that the story becomes convulsive and the overload of characters reveals how little worked the protagonists are in their personalities and backgrounds. There is no explanation for the context in which they are found, and the robot fights, which are poorly illustrated using CGI, are very boring although trying to look epic.

5. Dokyuu Hentai Eguzerosu

sentai

Many times, overuse of ecchi has spoiled an anime. Shimoneta is one of those rare exceptions. But this anime is not Shinometa, but a rare mix of sentai with smooth hentai. In summary, imagine that the Power Rangers are made up of a boy and his waifus harem, whose powers depend on his lust and each time they attack they are left naked by the energy outlet. The uniforms they wear as ecchi rangers don’t do them justice either. Add some generic characters with zero development, and jokes that get repetitive very quickly. Better to see Shimoneta again.

6. Rail Romanesque

train

Does anyone remember Rail Wars? Do not? If so, it is because apparently trains are not so lucky when they star in anime. Rail Romanesque follows the formula of the Kantai Collection and Azur Lane, in which cute and adorable waifus take the form of vehicles. But at times, the viewer feels that he sees an anime version of Thomas the train and his friends (but with lolis trains, it is worth mentioning), and the chapters are so short (3 to 4 minutes) that the development of the characters is very poor. To top it off, it is a harem. That’s right, a harem anime with lolis that transform into trains. Better to let it go.

7. Dragon’s Dogma

dogma

Netflix has been betting on new animated proposals, which in certain cases have been pleasantly surprised, such as Castlevania. When the Dragon Dogma game adaptation was announced, the anticipation was enormous. And that changed dramatically when it was released. This series is one of Netflix’s gaffes, due to the stuffy digital animation, boring plot, and forgotten characters. And to think that the game has such a rich and fascinating universe.

8. Kingusu Reido Ishi or Tsugu Mono-tachi

king

Another anime that sins of generic, with elements used in other stories, but in a poorer way. Unfortunate, because its animation and action scenes are quite decent. The plot that surrounds a conflict between elves and humans, as well as the political games between them overload the episodes with exposure that end up boring the viewer. And the characters, whose personalities feel so artificial and empty, end up sinking the story.

9. Shironeko Project ZERO Chronicle

project

This anime is an adaptation of the popular smartphone game Shironeko Project. And sadly, it falls into mediocrity due to its overly generic plot structure. Two kingdoms at war, a hero who vows to end the conflict and falls in love with the heroine of the opposing side. Although it tries to pose as another variant on the Romeo and Juliet story, it pales when compared to other similar anime.

10. Hatena Iryujon

illusion

An anime about magicians that many who have seen it wish that it disappears from their memory. The story introduces us to two childhood friends who meet again and become magicians. The development of the plot bores the viewer, and that is made worse by the lack of chemistry between the two protagonists. Although his humor uses very recurring and effective jokes in other anime, here they feel forced and inopportune.
