The tragedy of Poka, a character created to be a victim of abuse

In recent days, a character has become very popular, but not because of how cute and charming his design is. In reality, this character has been created by a Twitter artist for the sole purpose of being tormented, humiliated, humiliated, harassed and violated in the most bizarre, extreme and ruthless ways. The name of that character is Poka, and the main characteristic of him is his blindness.

view

The artist named Popopoka joined the widely used social network Twitter in May 2019. His first drawings stood out for presenting excellent lines that improved as he published more work on his account. But the more he published, the more the clear signs of violence, mistreatment and depression conveyed by the drawings, which seemed made as a harmless display of macabre humor, stood out. As of June, Popopoka began to publish cartoons with explicit sexual content, and ‘varied’.

start

The themes that the artist added made reference to madness, depression, abandonment and violence, with some stellar appearances of famous fictional characters, such as Leatherface or Waluigi. In some of his vignettes, Popopoka invented a twisted version of himself, as a homeless person who is dedicated to wandering and getting high. He also satirized Slenderman, in the form of a stalking shadow whose victim attempts to fight with fire.

variety

Other scenes drawn by the illustrator show a calm happiness that hides a notorious sadness, easy to distinguish in the looks charged with resignation of the central characters of his drawings. Between sex with fantastic beings, depressed smiles, domestic violence, psychological and physical torment, the figure of a young blind guitarist emerged who would become the favorite of Popopoka’s followers … and their favorite object of torture.

condemnation

The initial vignettes that Poka stars in are simple, with the young woman fighting to get her guitar back (enlivened with a Dark Souls theme), and participating in a scene at Halloween.

fall

However, in February 2020, Poka’s fictional life turned into hell after his creator decided to draw her being thrown down the stairs, something he celebrated by publishing the drawing. It would later be revealed that Poka had broken an arm as a result of that attack. The creator of the character did not draw vignettes in which justice was done, as is often the case in these types of stories.

fracture

Despite the complaints of some of his followers, Popopoka continued to subject his creation to mistreatment of all kinds, without hiding the twisted pleasure he felt in doing so. Poka is discriminated against by people around her, who do not show the slightest sympathy towards her due to her blindness, but take advantage of it to attack her more. And her torment continues in her home, where it is discovered that Poka is the adopted daughter of a sociopathic couple who also enjoy abusing her.

prison

Eventually, Poka’s cartoonist gave more attention to her character, with illustrated short stories that included more abuse and new villainous characters. These alternated with some vignettes where the girl enjoys good times, although with a bit of scathing humor. Popopoka has declared in the publications of said drawings that he created this character only to torture her, and that putting her in happy stories of her made him sick.

transience

Many people have been criticizing and harassing the cartoonist because of his twisted way of treating his tender creation. Others have formulated theories about the reason behind Popopoka’s motives for subjecting her character to such a wide repertoire of abuse. Some say that the author is a sadistic person who has decided to vent to this character so as not to hurt other people on the physical plane. There is also the hypothesis that Poka is actually a projection of traumatic past events of the cartoonist, in which she would have been abused like the one suffered by the little blind person that he created.

true

Whatever the truth, the impact that Poka and her illustrator have had on social media is undeniable. And that both will continue to outrage or touch all those who follow with haste the fictitious and unfortunate experiences of the little blind guitarist, with the distant promise of a happy ending.
