The rarest Pokémon in the world

With over 700 pocket bugs, it’s hard to imagine any being the result of a crazy sleepless night due to a lack of ideas. And yet it is so. These are the 10 weirdest Pokémon in the world that Ash and company explore during their travels.

1. Stunfisk

fish

At the top of the list is one of the most horrifying marine aberrations that the sea could launch. With an expression and look that make him look traumatized for life, this fish has an exclamation point tattooed on his body, as if he himself is surprised to be alive. The saddest thing about his design is that it reveals the little seriousness that the designers put into it when drawing it. As if they wanted to quickly put it aside. And it doesn’t even have an evolution, which further increases the tragic nature of its existence.

2. Swirlix and Slurpuff

cotton

Who came up with the idea for a pokemon in the shape of cotton candy? These are certainly fictional creatures, but this feels absurd. And its evolution is even more ridiculous, because when you see it one automatically thinks of a three scoop ice cream that melts in the sun. Most disturbing is the sugar addict look he maintains, barely blinking. Imagine finding it in the kitchen, at night, while trying to eat a late-night snack. You lose your appetite instantly, or you get a scare heart attack in the worst case.

3. Exeggcute

eggs

Remove the ‘EX’ and read the rest of the name. In Spanish, it would read ‘cute egg’. You have to have eggs to name an animal like that. But the strangest thing about this pokémon is its composition. It is an animal made up of six animals fused together, but that seem to have different separate personalities (just look at the expressions on each egg). And one of them has the brain (or yolk?) Exposed. Which suggests that they drag the corpse of one of their companions with them. And if he really is dead, the question of who killed him remains in the air. Scary.

4. Burmy, Wormadam and Mothim

moth

This bug is one of those that evolves in different ways depending on whether it is female or male. Whoever designed it deserves praise… for at least trying to put effort into his work. The base shape of this pokémon looks like a cork that has been twisted to exhaustion, then glue some leaves to it and add eyes loaded with God knows what traumas. And then there are its evolutions: If Burmy is female, it transforms into a rejected concept of Regirock (Wormadam), and if it is male, it becomes an animal (Mothim) that is very reminiscent of that other purple Pokémon moth. No, I don’t mean Venomoth, but the one with a face that seems to be crying out for mercy and kill her on the spot.

5. Woobat and Swoobat

vermin

Seeing this Pokémon makes one question the meetings that designers hold to decide the appearance of these creatures. Woobat is supposed to be inspired by the white bat from Honduras, which has to be a lie (I thought after seeing a photo of the aforementioned animal). Woobat is a hideous winged furball, and evolving doesn’t improve his image. Swoobat seems to have come from Dr. Frankenstein’s mind, as his body has parts that would fit better in other animals.

6. Trubbish and Garbodor

garbage

Imagine you had a bad day. That you have not been able to conjure up a coherent design for the new bug of the next installment of the famous game you work on. And to top it off, a lot of misfortunes happen to you before you get home. The next day, you go back to work inspired by a huge desire to ruin the life of the first unfortunate person who comes across you. But since that can get you in trouble (like a wanton assault lawsuit, for example) you decide to take it out by drawing literal garbage as a new pokémon. And voila, that’s how Trubbish was born, and its evolution Garbodor. Or at least that’s what I think happened, considering both monsters are garbage, in every sense of the word. At least they are useful in the TCG.

7. Unown

enigma

If you are one of those who like to collect letters of the alphabet, this pokémon is for you. The catch them all motto got a whole new meaning when these critters were introduced during the jump to the second generation. There are 28 different forms of Unown that the developers included as part of a mission, but which highlighted how unnecessary (and strange) these creatures were. The fact that they are hardly mentioned or seen in the following installments says a lot about it.

8. Klefki

key

Yes, it is true that inspiration comes from everywhere. Including the keychain with the Miku or Mikasa figurine that you carry everywhere with you so as not to be left out in case the wind closes the door of the house. Whoever designed this monster deserves a raise for his quick creativity. And then a training to nurture it more and refrain from creating aberrations like this. The appearance of this pokémon awakens a lot of intrigue about the place that keys and locks occupy in the universe of Ash and company. Not to mention other questions about the typical habits of living things.

9. Vanillite, Vanillish and Vanilluxe

vanilla

Seeing this pokémon woke me up with an unusual craving for ice cream. And he reminded me of the letter that was on the wall of the ice cream parlor that I visited. This bug comes in three different presentations: cup, cone with one ball and cone with two balls. Whoever thought of this adorable monstrosity must be as much an ice cream fan as I am. And the name, because his favorite flavor is vanilla, to the third power.

10. Luvdisc

disk

A fleeting reminder that love is absurd. As well as the appearance of this pokémon. It is a heart-shaped fish. And it’s called Luvdisc… love album. Are you still with me after that lousy joke? As flat as an earthenware and incoherent as the feeling it symbolizes, this creature does not evolve, and until today no one has known how to take advantage of it in combat. We can only say that it is there to fill the pokedex and give something to do for trainers who want to fish and eat something that is not as difficult to fillet as a Magikarp.
