After a conspicuous absence from the public eye in the manga and anime industry, cartoonist Shiro Usazaki made a big comeback with one of her first jobs of the year. Usazaki was commissioned to draw the cover of Weekly Playboy magazine.
The delivery of this magazine is a special that contains the selected photos of 21 actresses, models, cosplayers and other women who participated in the different editions of Weekly Playboy in the second half of 2020. This special is entitled ‘Shukkan Playboy Premium : 2020 Shimohanki Gravure Kessaku-sen ‘(Weekly Playboy Premium: Selection of Modeling Masterpieces of the second half of 2020). The magazine includes two posters in B2 size with additional illustrations by Usazaki.
This is not the first time that Playboy has the collaboration of mangakas to illustrate its cover. Cartoonist Eisaku Kubonouchi was responsible for the drawing that distinguished the Playboy magazine special for the First Half 2020 Selection of Modeling Masterpieces. Kubonouchi is known for the Chocolat series and character design on Carole & Tuesday.
With this collaboration, Shiro Usazaki reaffirms her place as an accomplished manga artist in the midst. The illustrator was part of the popular Act-Age manga, which she drew to bring to life the script written by author Tatsuya Matsuki. At the height of its popularity, the manga was canceled after Matsuki was arrested for sexually assaulting high school students. Affected by this, Usazaki left the scene during the final months of 2020, to reappear in December of that year with a short manga that was published in Weekly Shonen Jump.
After this fantastic comeback, the followers of the cartoonist wish her the best in this new beginning.
