Izumi Konata is an immortal character in the manga and anime scene. Since his appearance in the popular comic title Lucky Star, Konata has conquered otaku around the world, appearing in various illustrations and even memes. She is the eternally young otaku who does not care about the future, and enjoys her days dedicating herself to her hobbies: anime, manga, light novels and video games.
Konata-chan became a trend recently on social media (Twitter to be more specific), when she celebrated her thirty-second anniversary. The one who started it all was the user Oken_Vortis, who posted a message congratulating Konata on her birthday. Several otakus joined the celebration, creating the hashtag Konata Izumi (泉 こ な た).
Within a few hours, Izumi Konata-chan became a trend throughout all of Japan. Among the messages of congratulations, those that showed Konata as an adult woman, but still hooked on her youth hobbies, stood out. As a special detail, Konata’s seiyuu, Aya Hirano, joined the event through her official Twitter account of hers.
