Pokémon is a franchise much loved by fans around the world, especially in Japan; where they named Slowpoke as ambassador.
Japan loves Pokémon even more than we love it and proof of this is the following news. Since recently, the slow Pokémon Slowpoke was appointed as an ambassador for Kagawa prefecture.
Udon of Slowpoke
Thanks to coordinated efforts between the Kagawa prefectural government and The Pokémon Company, Slowpoke is an ambassador.
This is because the prefecture is famous for Udon (thick noodles) and the name Slowpoke in Japanese (Yadon) rhymes with Udon. This Pokémon held a press conference in which it also presented its official Udon products. In this “event” also, a commercial was presented where Slowpoke advertises its noodles. Which are called “Yadon no Udon” which translates to “Udon of Slowpoke”.
During the conference, it was said that the prefecture would change its name to be “Yadon-Ken” instead of “Udon-Ken”. This is the nickname the prefecture has for its rich thick noodles. So while it is still called Kagawa, now its nickname will be Yadon-Ken, Slowpoke Prefecture.
This is how Yutaro Goja, the Head of the Department of Tourism of the region, said it. And although everyone thought it was just a very elaborate joke, last week it seems that it was made official.
Since the press conference was held on April 1, 2018. Obviously no one took it seriously, but now the inhabitants have seen changes in the streets and shops. Since in different sewers Slowpoke designs have begun to be seen. In addition to the fact that the products of this adorable character have already begun to be sold.
So we already have another destination to visit when we go to Japan in the future maybe, hopefully. Of course, the fact that the sewers are still intact speaks highly of the Japanese.
