Although many consider Rem the female protagonist of Re: Zero, that role belongs to Emilia, the half-elf and possible heir to the kingdom of Lugnica. She is also the woman who conquered the heart of Subaru, who has sacrificed himself several times, both for her and her friends. And, during the broadcast of certain episodes of the second season of the anime Re: Zero, Emilia became an Internet phenomenon, in two different instances.
After episode 15 was broadcast, in which Subaru kisses Emilia, the Otakomu blog reported that the Google search engine had become saturated with the name Emilia, to the point that it resulted in several phrases that translated into Spanish indicated that Emilia was an annoyance or a bad head.
This screenshot shows that, if the name of Emilia is searched using katakana, the search engine returns the following results translated into Spanish: エ ミ リ ア め ん ど く さ い ‘Emilia mendokusai’ (Emilia is a nuisance), エ ミ リ ア メ ン ヘ ラ ‘Emilia is bad’ (Emilia is bad of the head). The last result is ‘Emilis kissu’ (エ ミ リ ア キ ス), referring to the kiss between Emilia and Subaru; in other words, an unintended spoiler.
Later, Emilia re-imposed her presence on the internet after the end of episode 17 of the anime. It explores Emilia’s past, and her appearance as an adorable little girl made social media go crazy. All the otakus were captivated by the chibi version of Emilia, and stated that various publications indicated that Chibi-Emilia should be protected at all costs.
This episode has turned Chibi-Emilia into one of RE: Zero’s fan-favorite figures. Despite this, the original version of the young half-elf is still the subject of dispute among anime fans, who do not know whether to hate or love her.
