Heterochromia iridum is the name used by ophthalmologists to refer to the eyes of a person that have different coloration in the iris. In other words, different colored eyes. This phenomenon is caused by the production, transport and concentration of melanin, and can be genetically inherited or caused by accident. But in the field of anime and manga, having different colored eyes is a trait that indicates enormous potential for a character.
The Japanese page Akiba Souken started a survey in July to determine which anime character with this particular characteristic is the most popular. The voting closed this October 1 and these were the ten characters chosen.
