Matthew Emblidge is an American citizen who has become the proud owner of the largest collection of items related to one of the most beloved manga and anime series: Cardcaptor Sakura. The enthusiastic collector made this news public through his Twitter account. In the photo you can see the certificate delivered by the Guinness organization itself, making it official as the number one collector of the saga starring Sakura Kinomoto.
The collection is made up of a total of 4,873 Cardcaptor Sakura products. We can find from stuffed animals to high-relief plastic keychains, in addition to the volumes of the manga.
Emblidge met his goal of being certified by the Guinness group in time for the 25th anniversary of the publication of the manga’s first chapter. (the exact date is May 1). Originally, the title of greatest collector of Cardcaptor Sakura belonged to our compatriot Sofía Pichihua, whose collection registered 1,086 items.
Cardcaptor Sakura tells the adventures of young Sakura Kinomoto, who is tasked with capturing and sealing powerful magic cards created by an enigmatic sorcerer. The manga began to be published in 1996, in the Nakayoshi magazine of the Kodansha publishing house. Twelve compilation volumes were subsequently released due to its growing popularity in Japan. But the series became world famous when the Madhouse studio adapted it to the anime format, airing for the first time in 1998. The anime consists of 70 episodes with two films, also produced by Madhouse.
The series returned with the publication of an official sequel, titled Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card. This manga is also part of Nakayoshi magazine, and nine compilation volumes are already on sale. Its animated adaptation (also by Madhouse) aired between January and June 2018, and had 22 episodes.
